In Texas, an individual is considered an "applicant" for the CPA Exam if they plan meet the educational requirements and intend to sit for the Uniform CPA Examination, administered by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA). This involves submitting transcripts and other relevant documents for evaluation. TSBPA requires an Application of Intent for this initial step for applicants working towards becoming a certified public accountant (CPA). An applicant may or may not be actively preparing to take the exam at this point.

Exam / Qualifications Overview

The Board has a statutory obligation put forth in Section 901.252 to ensure that every person engaged in the practice of public accountancy in Texas meets specific eligibility requirements. Only those who meet these requirements will be issued certificates to practice public accountancy in Texas.

  • Pass an exam on the Board’s Rules of Professional Conduct
